Following on from the Quattroporte I in 1965, the Mexico was the next Maserati to be fitted with the new V8 engine. The four-seater coupé was styled by Vignale, and after the exuberance of the previous Frua bodied cars, it lacked the visual drama to go with its high price. However, with the later 4.7-litre V8 fitted, it was seriously quick, with more than enough muscle to replace the Sebring. Sadly the new car failed to emulate its predecessor’s sales success in the USA – a situation that hurt Maserati’s finances significantly.
