Once Jaguar had caught up with XK120 Roadster demand and production of steel-bodied examples was running smoothly, it developed the coupé to widen appeal. Aside from the obvious addition of a roof, the biggest difference between this and the Roadster is the use of a floorpan, mostly in steel, in place of plywood. As with all XK120s there was an SE option, which added 20bhp through the use of high-lift cams, plus uprated valve springs and a lightened flywheel. Wire wheels were fitted to SEs, and were a popular retro-fit on non-SE models.
