Generally speaking, facelift cars don’t look as good as the cars they are intended to replace. But Jaguar tore up the form book with the Mk2 saloons which, thanks to William Lyons, was transformed by the fitment of revised upper door pressings and a deeper windscreen as well as widening the rear track. The effect was to brighten the interior and update the overall style, and in doing so, create the most iconic ‘60s saloon of them all. The 2.4 was still a modest performer, despite an additional 8bhp over the (retrospectively named) Mk1.
