Rootes, by now owned by the American Chrysler Corporation, swept away all their old models in 1966 and 1967 and replaced them with the Arrow range, personified by the Hillman Hunter and Avenger. The Series III Sceptre was an upmarket Hunter, with a quad-headlamp nose, vinyl roof, fancy wheeltrims and a side order of wood veneer inside. Coupled with this was an uprated 1725cc engine of 88bhp with overdrive as standard. It may have been badge engineering, but the additional touches did much to make the Humber desirable.
