Humber returned after World War 2 with the Hawk and the Snipe... both cars that owed an enormous debt of badge-engineering gratitude to the pre-war Hillman 14. While the Snipe had a six-cylinder engine, the Hawk also borrowed the four-cylinder 1944cc engine from its Hillman counterpart and slotted in below the Snipe as the Rootes Group’s big luxury saloon for the more economy-minded. Advancements on what had gone before were hydraulic brakes, independent front suspension, larger boots and a sliding sunroof.
