Former technical director at Triumph, Donald Healey, had been building his own cars since 1946, and the Elliott saloon was an important step in the development of his company. Considered to be the fastest closed four-seater available, these were thinly disguised racing cars, lightened with almost obsessive ruthlessness. At the Mille Miglia in 1948, Johnny Lurani and Giuglelmo Sandri won the production touring class in an Elliott, while Healey with his son, Geoffrey, finished ninth overall in a Westland Roadster.
