The next step up from the Mk I Consul was the Zephyr, distinguished by its different grille, longer wheelbase and 2262cc six-cylinder engine of 68bhp giving better, smoother performance. Unveiled in 1951, the range was further complemented by the Zephyr Zodiac of 1953, with a high compression (71bhp) engine, leather, fog lamps and, just so everybody knew it was special, two-tone paint and gold-plated badges. As well as the coachbuilt estates, there was the convertible with its power-operated hood.
