For their 1962 MkIII incarnation Ford’s Zephyrs put on considerable weight and adopted a razor sharp style with prominent fins framing the wide, capacious boot, and huge bonnets. As the Consul name was now being used elsewhere, the four-cylinder cars – using the same 1703cc engine as on the MkII, albeit giving an extra 5bhp to give 65bhp – became known as Zephyr 4s, those blessed with an additional two cylinders were dubbed Zephyr 6s. Externally the 6s had a different split grille plus other dashes of affluence.
