Based on a two-door Mirafiori shell, the 131 Sport was in effect an Italian equivalent to the Escort RS2000 that was launched at the same time. Both have two-litre engines with the Fiat’s twin-cam efficiency compensating for the 131 Sport’s extra weight. Both were pure road cars being sold on the back of rally successes. These days, however, the Fiat is substantially cheaper to buy. They were only sold in black, orange, silver or grey and have plastic wheelarches and a spoiler built into the front bumper.
