Starting from near enough the ground up, BMW worked quickly to design, develop and launch the brand new 501 from its new factory in Munich. But what an impressive new beginning – the six cylinder saloon and roadsters were impressively styled (hence the nickname ‘Baroque Angel’), refined, expensive and luxurious. Considering Germany was recovering from the effects of WW2, it was probably a case of too much, too soon, but these grand cars put BMW firmly on the map.
