The Princess couldn’t have looked more different from the 1800/2200 series it replaced, even though it kept the same four- and six-cylinder engines and front-wheel-drive. Originally badged as Austins, Morrises and Wolseleys, the individual marques were soon dropped and all types became collectively known as Princess. Quality and reliability let down what was an innovative design, although if a hatchback had been incorporated right from the start it might well have done better. More appreciated now than when current.
