Nintendo are releasing a free update to Animal Crossing on the 3DS that will offer amiibo compatibility and other new features. All you have to do is update your existing game when the free update arrives in the autumn, although if you don't own the game already Nintendo will be releasing a boxed copy that comes with the update pre-installed.
