Beauty and the Beast First Teaser Arrives
It’s a tale as old as the last time it was told. Released from its animated curse, be our guest and watch the teaser trailer for the new live action retelling of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
Hoping to continue Disney’s very lucrativetrend of bringing its animated classics into the real world, the film stars EmmaWatson (Harry Potter) who plays Belle while Dan Stevens (The Guest…be our The
Guest) takes the role of the prince turned into the titular beast.
And if you like castles, you’re in for atreat!
We spend most of the 90 sec or so run time exploring the haunting corridors and empty rooms of the prince’s humble abode before honing in on a portrait of the master of the house…right before a monstrous paw slashes through thepainting.
Then the castle door opens and in a wideshot we see what we have to assume is Belle before we get to hear the voices ofEwan McGregor as Lumiere and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth (although no singing,
which will be well worth the wait).
And finally we see the signature magicalrose that is counting days left for the Beast to find true love before the cursebecomes permanent…with Belle looking in, unaware of what’s in store for her.
The rest of the cast charged with addinganother dimension to the tale include Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou,Kevin Kline as Maurice (Belle’s father), Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu
Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster and Stanley Tucci as a grand piano
named Cadenza.
Bill Condon is directing Beauty and the Beast from a script by Stephen Chbosky, and the film will be produced byMandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Oscar winner Alan Menken,who won two Academy Awards for the original 1991 animated adaptation, has
written three new songs for the production with Sir Tim Rice, who worked on the
music for The Lion King with Elton John.
