Ben Affleck Has Written 'A Really Cool' Batman Script

I don’t know, if you want something doneright, do it yourself.

Ben Affleck’s Batman was one of thehighlights of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (not including Wonder Woman of
course). He perfectly captured the psychotic anger and cruel vengeance of ‘The
Bat’ and the debonair, running-on-instinct playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne, so
it’s great news to hear that the man himself has penned his own Batman script.

In a recentHollywood Reporter cover story
with William Morris Endeavor's co-CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell,
Whitesell reveals how many movies Affleck has currently signed up for when it
comes to DC's Caped Crusader.

"He's contracted to do at least
Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape," he
says, adding, "there's a script that he's written that is a really cool
[Batman] idea, so that's out there as an option."

Well, as a talent agency CEO, he’s hardly
likely to say it’s rubbish is he? And even though it may be a ‘really cool idea’
Warner Bros are under no obligation to greenlight the script – even if they
would be mad to not do that immediately.

This isn't the first time that the prospect
of stand-alone Affleck-originated Batman movie has been talked up. Last year,
rumours had Affleck developing the project with DC Entertainment CCO Geoff
Johns, with an eye to potentially write and star in the project.

It’s no secret that Affleck was to direct a
Batman stand-alone movie. The actor made that a condition when he signed on to
act as Bruce Wayne/Batman in 2013.

The film rumoured to be called ‘The Batman’
certainly needs to repair some of the damage done by Batman V Superman; in fact,we have a few suggestions as to what might restore the reputation of the Bat.

Firstly, let’s see Batman live up to his
billing as The World’s Greatest Detective and do some detective work.  We've certainly seen the brawn, now let’s see
him exercise that brain of his and get some sleuthing done. Bruce Wayne has
trained his mind as well as his body, let’s see use it.

One of my favourite Batman stories is
Perpetual Mourning by Ted McKeever from the Batman: Black and White, where the
Dark Knight conducts an autopsy on a murder victim to find her killer. The
story shows us Batman’s clinical method, his methodical attention to detail
but, more importantly, it shows us his empathy; how exactly he gets into the mind
of the victim leading up to the event of her murder from the lessons her body
tells him – in other words, his strong sense of moral justice and the vengeful
path it takes him on.

It’s a masterclass in storytelling and, in
a microcosm, tells us everything you need to know about who Batman is – it would
make a superb cold opening.

How about a story that delves into some of
the assumed back story of BvS? As that movie starts we already know that Batman
has been operating for 20 years, that Robin is dead and that The Joker is
responsible for that murder – so how about an adaptation of Under The Red Hood?

It ties together all of these strands while
pushing Batman in interesting, emotionally draining territory – all things that
could easily dovetail with what we have already seen.

While we’ve seen a brief glimpse of Gotham –
or at least an abandoned part of Gotham big enough of a superhero smackdown –
so why don’t we expand on that brief glimpse and see something around Gotham that
we’ve never seen on screen before? Say, the neighbouring city of Blüdhaven? And
who better to guide us through the former whaling town than its own vigilante,
Nightwing aka Dick Grayson, the original Robin?

How about learning more about this Batman
through one of his former, now spurned, ally? What caused the pair to separate?
Was it just Grayson’s need to strike out alone or was it something more? and
what force of evil could possibly bring them together again?

In addition to the movies Whitesell
mentioned, Affleck's Batman will also make a cameo appearance in August's
Suicide Squad, which includes a number of the hero's comic book villains as
lead characters (His rumoured presence was confirmed in footage from the movie
released during Comic-Con last year).
