Coming out of its shell, the live-action remake of Ghost in the Shell, based on the original anime feature, directed by Mamoru Oshii, which itself was based on Masamune Shirow's manga, staring Scarlett Johansson, has added another cast member to its roster.

Pilou Asbæk, best known to date for The Borgias, is to co-star as Batou in the film. Rupert Sanders is directing the movie, with the latest draft of the script coming from Jonathan Herman – who took over writing duties from William Wheeler.

Johansson has agreed to play Kusanagi, a cybernetic human who, in the original film, went on the trail of a hacker called the Puppet Master.

It’s been nearly a year since the news broke that Johansson was to star in the remake with the wait down to lining up schedules for its March 2017 release date.

The film itself has been in the works for some time, previously Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie was set to take the lead.
