Bethesda and id Software are finally letting the DOOM single-player campaign take the spotlight with almost an hours' worth of footage captured and narrated over by the studio.

Much of the gameplay footage to-date has been for the multiplayer side of things but many DOOM fans aren't interested in that and want to know what id Software has cooked up for them in the single-player campaign. Story is more fleshed out for one thing, but still kept relatively light and told using the environment.

The signature running, gunning and secret hunting is still there front-and-center with over 50 minutes' worth of video showcasing the campaign. You'll hear questions and answers from the developer throughout the video touching on what we're seeing.

Why do demons glow blue and orange for example? That's to do with the Glory Kill system which lets us executive context sensitive finishing moves, but they can be ignore for sheer firepower. They also mention they can be switched off in harder difficulty modes.

As we progress through different levels we get the opportunity augment our weaponry with modifications, or generally upgrade with upgrade points earned through combat and exploration. Challenges are unlocked at certain points to let us 'master' the weapon.

Our armour suit can also be upgraded with exploration playing a key role in discovering elite guards who have a chip in them which can apply upgrades to our armour. These can help out particular play styles, like aiding our secret hunting or improving dexterity for quicker action.

The single-player campaign is 'in the range' of 13 to 15 hours' worth of gameplay on normal difficulty, according to their internal focus testing, but difficulty can dramatically alter that along with what strategies work.

DOOM is due to release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in two weeks on May 13th.
