Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away
In upsetting news, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has passed away on July 11, 2015 at the age of 55 due to a bile duct growth. Nintendo announced their loss earlier today via press release on their investor website.
Iwata was first appointed as a director of Nintendo in June 2000 before becoming the company president in May 2002, replacing Hiroshi Yamauchi after a 54 year reign. More recently, Iwata had been appointed CEO of Nintendo of America Inc. in 2013.
Early in his career after graduating university, Iwata joined developer HAL Laboratory as a programmer and helped bring Earthbound and the Kirby games to life.
He will surely be missed and our thoughts go out to the Iwata family at this time of need.
