Pacific Rim Sequel Reportedly Delayed

Cancel the apocalypse! Pacific Rim 2 has reportedly been delayed indefinitely.

News of the delay first began to emerge a few days ago when the proposed start of production in just a couple of months from now had been shifted to 2016 at the earliest. However, behind the story is the strained relationship between Legendary Pictures and Universal – unwilling to foot the cost of both Pacific Rim 2 and Kong: Skull Island, something had to give.

Universal were only too happy to send Kong packing to Warner Bros. where he’ll now be facing down Godzilla in the appropriately titled King Kong Vs Godzilla.

There had been ongoing debates about whether the film (which earned $411 million worldwide) did enough for Legendary and Warners (who owns the rights despite the former company’s switch to Universal) to actually go ahead with the film. And with its business in China the deciding factor in making the follow up to Guillermo del Toro’s monsters vs robots smash ‘em up, it seems that we’ll have to wait a little bit longer for the Jaegers and Kaiju to face each other once again.
