Ubisoft's New Assassin's Creed Game Might Miss 2017, "Opportunity To Take It To Another Level"

Ubisoft big CEO cheese Yves Guillemot has said they've got enough going on for the company that they can take their time with the next Assassin's Creed instalment.

It's time to kick things up a notch, reckons Guillemot, with the Assassin's Creed series more or less following a set formula laid down by Assassin's Creed II - which is still arguably the best in the series for many fans. Requiescant in pace, Ezio.

"...we had an opportunity to take it to another level. So we said we'll take all the time it takes to make the experience fantastic. It was feasible because we have other games. There's a huge potential in this game to revolutionise the IP, so we said, "Let's make sure we change our model so we have more time and that we can bring back a greater experience," said Guillemot.

When asked if that meant possibly skipping out on a new Assassin's Creed release next year as well, the Ubisoft boss said: "Yeah. It will be when it's ready."

The big tech on the horizon today is virtual reality and Ubisoft is already dipping their talon into those waters with Eagle Flight due out this October.

Could the next big Assassin's Creed game natively support a virtual reality experience? It might be part of that 'revolutionary' direction for the series. Ubisoft still has some egg left to scrap off their chops after the Assassin's Creed Unity debacle, although Syndicate was a huge success by comparison. What can they do to shake things up?

"It's difficult to say right now. You'll actually make up your mind on that when you see it," teases Guillemot in an interview with Gamespot.

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed feature film starring Michael Fassbender releases in US cinema December 21st this year, and in the UK January 1st, 2017.
