Universal is in the Chris Pratt business and business is good…

Not content battling dinosaurs on the studios behalf in this summer’s Jurassic World Chris Pratt is about to become the real McCoy…in the sense that he’s lined up to play Bill McCoy, the real life inspiration for said phrase and infamous bootlegger.

Bill Dubuque, who wrote The Judge, worked on the idea based on a suggestion from producer Tom McNulty, with the pair teaming up to sell Pratt on the concept.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story follows real-life bootlegger Bill McCoy, who inspired the phrase ‘the real McCoy’ referring to his unsullied liquor. McCoy, who ironically was a teetotaller, prided himself on never having to pay protection money to anyone, criminal or otherwise during the prohibition.

Once the pitch started making the rounds bidding was locked out after Warner Bros. and Universal began bidding aggressively on the action-adventure film – Universal won after slamming down $1.5 million against $3 million.

Pratt will next be seen in the aforementioned Jurassic World, which stomps into our cinemas on June 12. He’s about to work on Antoine Fuqua’s new The Magnificent Seven and is attached to Cowboy Ninja Viking and, of course, Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, which arrives here on April 28, 2017.
