An Episodic Final Fantasy VII Release Could Be Good News!

We all love to complain about change but isn't the news that Final Fantasy VII will be released episodically good news for the most part? Director Tetsuya Nomura himself stated "if we dedicated our time to a single release, parts of it would become summarised."

The original game had to be spread across three discs, it was enormous. Now, it's beautiful and enormous, featuring collaboration between third-party developers such as CyberConnect2. That doesn't come in a small package. It's promising to hear the likelihood of "non-essential" set-pieces won't be cast aside for conveniences sake. Our only worry is the pricing of each individual episode but that hasn't been discussed, so we shouldn't contribute to the scare campaign.

Other interesting details came out alongside this revelation including details on this new edition of the Active Time Battle system which won't have you waiting for it to fill but will lend itself to the game's new action.

Nomura said, “Regarding the battle speed and tempo, for the sake of a stress-free battle, we want to do something on the level of Dissidia Final Fantasy. As far as the degree of action goes, it’s Dissidia Final Fantasy, then Kingdom Hearts, then Final Fantasy VII Remake. There won’t be any actions that require a technique."

"By using the new system, we want to do action battles while also being able to fight while thinking strategically ... In the end, it’s based on Final Fantasy VII, so elements like the ATB gauge and Limit Breaks will appear with new ways to be used.”

Finally, the story will be adjusted in order to allow prior fans to be surprised once again.
