Mass Effect: Andromeda 'Initiative' Trailer, EA 'Open To Delays'
BioWare's upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda has received a new 'Andromeda Initiative' trailer that teases the ambitious interstellar exploration project.
Alongside this painfully short teaser for the new RPG is word from EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen that the publisher is open to pushing back the release date for Mass Effect: Andromeda, if BioWare feels it needs more time. Currently the game is on schedule for launch by March 2017.
"Right now, Mass Effect is tracking extremely well," Jorgensen said of Andromeda. "The game looks beautiful. And we're really pleased with its progress. However, as you've seen, we are willing to make moves in launch dates if we feel it's necessary to deliver the right player experience."
EA seems to have calculated "three or four or five months" worth of delay should BioWare request more time. For the time being Mass Effect: Andromeda remains within this fiscal year's guidance, which ends March 31st, 2017. The BioWare follow-up was expected this year before getting nudged into their fiscal Q4.
As for the Andromeda Initiative trailer, it seems something has happened following the climax of the original trilogy with the human race 'forced' back to Earth where they undertake this new program to reach, explore and even colonise the neighbouring Andromeda galaxy. 600 years have past if the trailer is accurate, and this retreat back to Sol could be something to do with the Mass Relays no longer functioning properly, effectively cutting off the Milky Way sectors.
"The Andromeda Initiative is currently seeking recruits. Registered recruits will be among the first contacted to receive critical mission information, special training opportunities, and will also be eligible for reward upon program completion. Orientation begins Nov. 7."
EA and BioWare and getting ready for N7 Day this November 7th to release new information. Could they break news of a delay?
Mass Effect: Andromeda releases on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 by March 2017.
