The upcoming multiplayer shooter from Cliff Bleszinski and his new studio, Boss Key Productions, has gone through some changes since its first appearance last August which were revealed earlier today at San Francisco's Game Developers Conference.

First and foremost, LawBreakers will no longer run on a free-to-play model as stated earlier. This decision came after the team "did a lot of discussions and even more research," according to Bleszinski. "There are some core free-to-play games that do well, but for us, we didn’t want to go down the well of players buying 'energy' or other sleazy things. A lot of core gamers have a negative reaction when they hear free-to-play because they think they’ll get ripped off."

According to Art Director Tramell Isaac, the free-to-play structure had a dramatic effect on development, leading the team focusing on cash flow as opposed to making a good, fun game. In terms of pricing, when the game launches this Summer exclusively on Steam, LawBreakers won't hold a full $60 price tag but will sit somewhere in the mid-range.

Speaking of art direction, LawBreakers has taken on a new style in hopes of separating the game from the "current slew of colourful shooters ... we decided to take a step back and explore how we could dial up the maturity in LawBreakers."
