John Carpenter On Board For New Halloween Film

You may have missed it yesterday butPacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro took to Twitter to remind the worldjust what a stone cold genius The Thing director John Carpenter is, which isgreat timing as he’s just announced that he’ll be executive producing and writing the score for a new  Halloween
film.

There’s been ten Halloween films in totalwhich have run the horror gamut from sequels of varying quality to direct
remakes but now the franchise has a chance to redeem itself through the hands
of the man who gave birth to the monster that is Michael Myers for Miramax and
Blumhouse Productions.

While his name has been attached to all thesequels it’s been more of a contractual obligation than any creative input but, with the tenth film, all that changes:

“38 years after the original Halloween, I’mgoing to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all,” he
said.

Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions – who’ve
made a name for themselves squeezing maximum scares from minimal budgets – was unsurprisingly
pleased to announce Carpenters return to the franchise:

“Halloween is one of those milestone filmsthat inspired everyone at our company to get into the world of scary movies”,
he said. “The great Malek Akkad and John Carpenter have a special place in the
hearts of all genre fans and we are so excited that Miramax brought us
together. We cannot wait to find and collaborate with the right film maker to
give Halloween fans the movie they deserve.”

What shape this new film will take remains tobe seen but with Carpenter on board it’ll be interesting to see what input hehas this time around.

Two names who've already been lined up to fill the directors chair are Mike Flanagan who directed the excellent Hush, as well as working on previous indie film Oculus, and also helmed Ouija 2 for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes and Adam Wingard, who helmed Who's Next.
