Mads Mikkelsen Lets Slip Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Role
He’s previously denied that he was aplaying the villain but now Mads Mikkelsen has given us the clearest indicationyet of who he’ll be playing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
So be cautious my young Padawan’s, there
are spoilers ahead.
In Rogue One, Felicity Jones is playing a
rebellious soldier called Jyn Erso, and it turns out – as previous rumours had
indicated - that Mikkelsen's character
has what you might call a blood tie to Jones.
Speaking to Sky News Mikkelsen let slip: “I
read the script and it was very beautiful and Felicity is playing this lovely,
strong woman and I play her father."
While that’s really not a lot to go on – westill don’t know what his name is or whether or not he appears via flashback or
is in the actual film – it’s still another piece of the puzzle locked into
place.

Mikkelsen. Although he hasn’t really told us all that much.
Dissecting his very brief statement
further, we can deduct from the ‘beautiful’ script that perhaps the two are
estranged from one another and those beautiful moments – which seem at odds
with the grimy nuts and bolts aesthetic of the film – are either flashbacks or
a moment of reconciliation between the pair.
We know from the trailer that she’s been
raising herself since the age of 15 years-old – it could be possible that the
imperials do something to him or kidnap him in order to help construct the
Death Star – he’s rumoured to be the architect of the battle station in
question - sending her the pathway
towards the rebels. So it’s not difficult to see why the rebels are keen to have
her join their mission to obtain those plans, given that she’s been privileged
to all kinds of imperial secrets thanks to her relationship with Mikkelsen’s
character.
There’s also the wild theory that Mikkelsen
is playing a younger version of The Force Awakens’ Lor San Tekka, the old
adventurer played by Swedish actor Max von Sydow – who was mercilessly cut down
by Kylo Ren at the beginning of that adventure.
Going even further off-world with our
outlandish rumours, there’s the theory that Jyn is supposed to be Rey’s mother –
which would go some way to explain why Tekka stuck around on Jakku all those
years, keeping a distant eye on his granddaughter for her entire life.
However, having let slip that minorintriguing detail, Mikkelsen was then asked directly if he could confirm
whether Darth Vader would be making an appearance in Rogue One, to which the
now spoiler conscious actor replied:
"Yes I can,” he said – “but I
won't."
