David Tennant Ready to Take a Bite Out of Chew

He may already have a role in the Marvel Universe thanks to his appearance in AKA Jessica Jones but David Tennant is now taking on another, albeit slightly more obscure, comic property in an animated adaptation of Image Comics Chew.

The Tenth Doctor himself, Tennant will be joined by Supernatural star Felicia Day and The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun in the story, adapted from the comic by original writer John Layman, who created the title with artist Rob Guillory. Jeff Krelitz is directing and co-producing the movie.

Chew is set in a world where, thanks to avian flu, all bird meats have been outlawed after the outbreak killed millions of Americans. Yeun will voice Detective Tony Chu, who is a “cibopath”, meaning he receives psychic impressions from whatever he eats. He’s in relationship with Amelia Mintz, a food critic who paints such a vivid picture of the food she reviews that reads can taste it, and has to face off against Mason Savoy, played by David Tennant, his mentor who has since become a villain.

It’ll be interesting to see what Tennant brings to a role once earmarked for the late, great Robin Williams – while he won’t be able to reach the same manic levels of Williams, Tennant is more than a capable replacement.
