Selma director Ava DuVernay has confirmed she won't be helming Marvel's Black Panther.

Following speculation about her involvement in the film and a meeting with Marvel's head honcho Kevin Feige - DuVernay told Essence: "I'm not signing on to direct Black Panther", adding that "I think I’ll just say we had different ideas about what the story would be. Marvel has a certain way of doing things and I think they’re fantastic and a lot of people love what they do".

She admitted that they "didn't see eye to eye" on the story and perspective of the movie, and thus passed on the Black Panther project. "I wish them well and will be first in line to see it", she added.

Chadwick Boseman will debut his take on Black Panther in next year's Captain America: Civil War. The Black Panther movie is set to follow on July 6th 2018, with Mark Bailey currently penning the script.
