Gearbox Release PC Requirements For Battleborn, "Actively Investigating" 4K
Gearbox Software has released the list of demands Battleborn has for PCs once it's launched. It's the studio's first original IP since releasing the Claptrap drama series otherwise known as Borderlands.
We might not be vault hunting but we will be first-person shooting a lot in this MOBA-style fantasy sci-fi universe. Apparently a galactic wide catastrophe has led to almost all species fleeing to the Solus system with each faction picking their very best 'battleborn' warriors to go fight the Varelsi, those responsible for the exodus.
While its multiplayer side of things falls into the realm of a MOBA, Battleborn actually sports a single-player campaign, though it borrows the format and structure of the MOBA genre. We'll level up each match as it begins with new skills unlocking with a choice out of three each new level in our character's unique Helix skill tree.
Gearbox are launching with 25 playable characters in Battleborn. The single-player can be experienced co-operatively and it unfolds across an objective-based narrative. Meltdown, Arena mode and Incursion all task us with destroying enemy bases, while Devastation has us capture them.
"A legion of cosmic horrors and a traitorous scumbag are trying to consume the universe, and so far they’ve been successful. It’s time for the factions to stop fighting over the scraps and take action to save Solus, the last star. You and this motley crew are all that is left to save it. Live together, or die alone."
Battleborn actually came about from the cancelled 'Furious 4' project that Gearbox had been working on, which even got an announcement trailer. However it fell through but the studio took new mechanics they had devised and turned it into this new MOBA-style shooter with a fantasy sci-fi setting - something they know a little about.
The visual style of Battleborn is a little similar to Borderlands in that it has exaggerated body types and a striking flair. They also make sure there's plenty of humour infused so as not to take itself too seriously. All winning combinations and what set Borderlands aflame.
Battleborn won't support 4K resolutions at launch but Gearbox is "actively investigating" a post-launch update at some point to include it for those with such fancy screens and bicep-bulging hardware. Battleborn is releasing on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 May 3rd.
