Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset Launches Across UK and Europe Today
A thing is happening! The long awaited Oculus Rift VR headset is finally available through retailers in the UK and across the European mainland. No more import shenanigans.
You might remember that the revealed price point for Oculus Rift caused something of a stir after the founder of Oculus VR said it would be kept low in price. Then there were accusations that, since it was taken over by Facebook, a price gouge was going on.
Today the Oculus Rift headset is priced at £549 which is a sizeable investment for what is essentially a PC monitor strapped to your head. Another hurdle is ensuring anyone who buys a virtual reality headset actually has a powerful enough PC to use it effectively.
"New locations to experience the Rift are being added every week,” adding to the buffet of locations already offered giving live tech demos of Oculus Rift at store chains such as John Lewis, Curry’s PCWorld, GAME and other big high street names.
What's in the box?
If you lay down the cash monies for one of these Oculus VR units then you'll be getting the headset, a sensor, a remote and an Xbox One wireless controller.
"Virtual reality is being heralded as the next computing platform and with more than 100 full-featured VR games and experiences now on Rift and with more than 30 new titles scheduled to launch this year, there has never been a more exciting time to jump into VR,” continued a statement.
“From the immersive virtual worlds of Minecraft, to the upcoming sci-fi shooter Damaged Core, to the made-for-VR CCG Dragon Front launching later this year, there’s truly something for everyone.”
Buying an Oculus Rift includes a copy of platformer Lucky’s Tale. So far there aren't very many dedicated experiences to have outside of fancy demos and some movies.
Oculus Rift is officially on sale in stores across the UK and Europe for £549 / €699.
