World War Z 2 is staggering towards the screen with writer Steven Knight turning in his first draft of the zompocalypse follow up.

Ever since the troubled first film shot past the $540 million mark at the box office, a sequel has been in the works with The Impossible’s director Juan Antonio Bayona replacing Marc Foster and knight, the writer of Peaky Blinders and Locke, hammering away at the script.

Speaking to Collider, Knight said of the project: "I was approached with the idea of 'how do we move this along?' so how could I resist?"

Just what this means for our infected planet remains to be seen but Knight did share what he admired the most about the first flick: "I think the beauty of the first film was the way that it never paused for breath. It never spent a moment thinking 'hang on a minute, we'd better tell the audience what this is all about'. It stayed in the moment, it stayed with that person".

So we could be seeing more of the same in the sequel.

Once again starring Brad Pitt World War Z 2 is set for release on June 9th 2017. Production is expected to get underway early next year.
