Kenneth Branagh Set to Direct Artemis Fowl Film

Not content with making sure Cinderella made it to the ball (and a healthy box office return) Kenneth Branagh is now circling an adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl.

The popular novel series sees 12 year-old Artemis – equal parts genius, millionaire and criminal – bite off more than he can chew when he kidnaps a fairy, needing her magic to save his family.

There’s been talk of an adaptation since 2013 when the plan was to combine the first two novels into the first movie, however, things have been quiet until Branagh, fresh from Cinderella’s fantastic box office success, showed an interest in the project.

Whether or not that proposed two books/one film idea comes to fruition is certainly something Branagh will consider as he develops the project, with an eye to directing, with Conor McPherson is set to pen the latest screenplay for it.

Up first there’s the small matter of Branagh's next film, an adaptation of Agatha Christie's Murder on The Orient Express. Then It could very well be Fowl’s turn to hit the big screen.
