Michael Keaton Rumoured for Spider-Man: Homecoming Villain Role

Michael Keaton could be jumping from DC toMarvel to play the main villain in the new Spider-Man movie.

Keaton is no stranger to the world of
superheroes, having twice played Batman for Tim Burton; if he does sign on to
play the as yet undisclosed role, he’ll be making the switch from DC to Marvel,
reports Variety.

Marvel and Sony have been very careful when
spinning the webs of intrigue about the next Spider-Man film, which, thanks to
CinemaCon we now know is called Spider-Man: Homecoming
, thanks to the jazzy new
logo hovering above these very words.

And although we know a few of the actors
who’ll star — Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya — we haven’t much clue about
what their characters are actually doing in the movie.

So, as usual, in that void, rumours have
been allowed to flourish and the latest points to Vulture being in Spider-Man:
Home coming, although not necessarily as the big bad.

Birth. Movies. Death have the rumour and itseems to suggest that he’s either putting in a brief appearance or will only
serve as a secondary villain for the movies actual spider-foe.

The Vulture has been tormenting Spider-Man
since making his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #2 in 1963. While there have
been a few interpretations, the original, Adrian Toomes is perhaps the best
known. A former electronics engineer, he sports a special harness that allows
him to fly and enhances his strength. He’s typically portrayed as an old man,
in stark contrast to the young and nimble Spider-Man.

He’s very much a true Silver Age characterand slightly sillier than perhaps movie audiences would expect from the usually
very nuanced Spider-Man villains (that’s if you ignore Venom and The Sandman).

Sam Raimi had, for a long time, wanted to
use Vulture but was unfortunately saddled with Venom and then after Spider-Man
3 received a sound kicking by critics, was removed from the franchise just
before the whole thing was rebooted into the risible The Amazing Spider-Man and
its equally poor sequel.

As for the new logo, that was presented by
Spider-Man himself Tom Holland who took to the stage at CinemaCon to introduce
a new clip from Captain America: Civil War (that’s right, Sony advertising a
Marvel movie) which introduced Peter Parker in Queens

For those wanting to know, the ‘Homecoming’
refers both to the character coming back to Marvel and the movies high school
setting.
