Disney Delay Star Wars Episode VIII By 7 Months

The wintry debut for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a huge success so why not repeat it? Disney has announced the next Star Wars film will be missing its original May 2017 window and instead arrive seven months later for December 15th, 2017.

There's no official reason given by the corporate empire but it fits nicely as releasing exactly two years since J.J. Abrams brought us Episode VII. Variety notes this is not-so-great news for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One which is now likely to move. To tide over Star Wars fans for this year December 16th, 2016 will see the release of the standalone Rogue One.

Star Wars: Episode VIII now releases in US cinemas December 15th, 2017.
