Rare's Sea Of Thieves Sailing Into Early 2017

The swashbuckling Sea of Thieves from Rare won't be sailing out of port this year but should be plundering on Xbox One and Windows 10 sometime early 2017 instead.

The revelation of a scheduled window came from Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg who was talking about their release line-up of various titles. He commented that "not far after" Gears of War 4 this October they have Halo Wars 2 "in February and then we just keep kind of cranking as we go through."

"Sea of Thieves is coming out in that window, Scalebound, a lot more titles. This is our biggest games lineup we’ve ever had over the next year. As a first-party we will publish and release more games and more exclusives than we ever have."

Microsoft didn't make any mention of a release date or window during their E3 2016 event which obviously raised red flags instead of jolly rogers. Now it seems even an early 2017 window might not see a 'full launch' of Rare's colourful piracy.

A press release from Microsoft states that Sea of Thieves "offers an experience that will evolve over time, landing in players’ hands early and growing based on feedback from the community," which suggests an early access launch. Given that it's an open world multiplayer environment there's going to be a lot of community feedback.

Sea of Thieves releases on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC in 2017.
