They were once in line to direct but now Vacation helmers Jonathan M Goldstein & John Francis Daley are writing the next Spider-Man film.

The pair are just the latest names to join the exhaustive preproduction process which has already seen Tom Holland beat the competition in an intensive round of auditions to land the role of your friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.

He'll be joined by director Jon Watt and actress Marisa Tomei who'll be playing Aunt May.

Watts overcame a varied shortlist of directors for the job, and two names that were on the list were John Francis Daley and Jonathan M Goldstein. They're the pair who have directed the incoming reboot of National Lampoon's Vacation and they have a strong comedy background (Daley was one of the stars of the Freaks And Geeks) - so they're a perfect fit for the John Hughes vibe this new Spider-Man film is going for.

Spider-Man is currently scheduled for release in July 2017 with the webslinger due to make his debut in Captain America: Civil War.
