We've all had commutes from hell but this is something else – it’s Gone Girl…on a train! No, wait it’s The Girl on a Train. If you've got a thing for unreliable narrators, twist-filled plots and vanishing victims then this one might be for you

Continuing a sterling run of roles for Emily Blunt – who has switched effortlessly between Disney princess, DEAofficer and comedienne – the films sees the Sicario actress play Rachel, aheavy-drinker who develops an obsession with a couple she regularly sees whileon her commute to work.

After the woman disappears, Rachel becomes entangled in the investigation.

“I just love that it’s about addiction and loneliness and voyeurism and what we think we see and don’t see,” Blunt told Deadline. “I think it’s very relatable. We’ve all ridden the train to work andwondered about the lives of the people on the train, and I think that peoplerelate to that.”

Hawkins’ thriller became a bestseller on publication in 2015, selling over three million copies in the US and topping the UK hardback chart for 20 weeks – a record.

Directed by Tate Taylor and based on the bestselling novel by Paula Hawkins, Emily Blunt is joined by Justin Theroux, Rebecca Ferguson, Luke Evans and Haley Bennett.

The Girl on The Train is released October 7th
