Chatting to BBC’s Newsnight programme about his love of celluloid and film preservation, Interstellar director Christopher Nolan, let slip that he may one day direct a James Bond movie.

In an interview with Stephen Smith, Nolan was asked if people told him they liked Interstellar, but then asked him what on Earth its about? “I get that sort of equally with most of my films. That is to say, I'll [still] have people ask me about Inception. Different sections of the audience get different things out of films.

"When you try and make a film that has a certain density to it, you do - to a certain extent - split up your audience response. As long as they get something out it, you're doing okay", he added.

He was then asked, given that, after Spectre, Sam Mendes will be departing the director’s chair, would he like to direct a James Bond movie: "It's a great franchise, and I grew up absolutely loving it", Nolan admitted. "They seem to be doing fine without me", he said.

"That's not a no", Smith put to him. Nolan laughed, and admitted "it's not a no, but it's not a yes".
