Marvel are mad about Mads as the Hannibal actor looks set to join Benendict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange movie.

Mikkelsen is currently shooting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Variety are now reporting that he’s set to take on one of the villain roles in Doctor Strange. The exact role hasn't been identified at this stage.

At one stage, Marvel were interested in the Casino Royale actor playing the role of Malekith in Thor: The Dark World, before Christopher Eccleston was cast in the part, due to Mikkelsen's Hannibal commitments.

Cumberbatch will play Stephen Vincent Strange, a former neurosurgeon who becomes the next Sorcerer Supreme and primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Marvel Comics artist Steve Ditko created the character in 1963. Swinton will play Strange’s mentor, the Ancient One, while Ejiofor will appear as Baron Mordo, who also studies magic under the Ancient One in the comic books, before becoming Doctor Strange’s nemesis.

Doctor Strange is set for release on November 4th 2016
