Bryan Singer to Board 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

In keeping with his regular one-man PR assault via Instagram, director Bryan Singer has confirmed his next project will be an adaptation of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

It’s certainly ambitious, what with the projects statues as a bit of a white whale for directors in Hollywood, having failed to be harpooned by both McG and, more promisingly, David Fincher, who got as far as chasing Brad Pitt for the lead, locking down locations in Australia and a completed script by Seven scribe Andrew Kevin Walker.

Fincher’s attempt to raise the Nautilus was with Disney but, given the public domain nature of the original novel and the directors own close ties with X-Men studio Fox, it wouldn’t be surprising if the two set sail together on this project.

Singer, who promises “an epic and emotional adventure for all ages” has a screenplay written by Rick Sordelet and Jack The Giant Slayer’s Dan Studney based on a story by the director and his writers. And, of course, drawing from Verne’s novel.
