First Trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger Zombie Pic Maggie

Of all the foes slain by the ‘Austrian Oak’ Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator) you would thing zombies had cropped up at least once; not even the many faceless enemies mowed down in such fare as Commando and Predator have ever rolled over and given him a cheeky nibble.

It makes you wonder how it’s taken this long for Arnie to face down the undead. However, it’s not as simply as carrying a mini-gun into a graveyard and sending them back from whence they came. Not when one of them happens to be your slowly turning daughter.

That’s the premise of Maggie – directed by Henry Hobson, who directed the main title sequence for the stellar The Last of Us – where Schwarzenegger plays Wade, a Midwestern farmer who stays by the side of his beloved teenage daughter, played by Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) even as she slowly turns into a cannibalistic zombie. It’s a bold premise and a welcome change of pace for Arnie; even if the plot does sound like the number one reason why stupid people die in zombie films - lets hope Arnie's Wade can survive such a fate.

Maggie was due to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival but was hastily pulled after it was acquired by Lionsgate. Despite the dramatic pull, the reason wasn’t one of quality – it was more to do the commercial potential of the film.

Maggie opens for a limited run in the US on 8th May.
