Built to "take advantage of the advanced technology and gaming platform provided by Windows 10", Microsoft have announced a new standalone version of Minecraft for their new operating system.

The new edition won't be replacing the PC version but existing PC players will receive the title for free. Have you not picked up the PC version of Minecraft yet? You can currently purchase the new edition for a limited price of $10.

The Windows 10 Edition will offer additional functionality for Windows 10 optimised devices such as switching between controller, touch, and keyboard inputs on the fly. The game's UI will adjust to suit your chosen input immediately.

As the original PC version did before it, Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition will first launch in beta, it will be available July 29 with promises of regular content updates.
