Steve Carell in Talks for Minecraft Movie
Much like the structures of its virtual worlds, work has been slow and arduous on the Minecraft movie. However, that all may be about to change with the interest from comedian Steve Carrell, who is entering in talks to star.
While there isn’t an abundance of new information, we could ‘mine’ a few facts; namely director Rob McElhenney is still aboard to direct the film version, with Wonder Woman's Jason Fuchs providing the script.
Quite what this will all have to do with the game, which lets players build blocky structures from material mined from their surroundings and, should they so desire, battle creatures that come out at night, remains to be seen.
But, as The Lego Movie has proven, anything is possible when you have a compelling narrative and easy humour – oh, if only it were that simple.
If successful, Warner Bros. will be hoping the film forges its own franchise when it eventually appears in cinemas in 2019.
