Paul Schrader and Nicolas Cage will team up again to tackle celebrated crime novel, Dog Eat Dog – written by the ‘crime writer’s crime writer’ Edward Bunker.

Deadline reports the film has just been acquired by Arclight, and will be scripted by Matt Wilder and Paul Schrader. Set deep in the underbelly of Los Angeles, Dog Eat Dog is a gritty contemporary crime thriller about a trio of ex-cons hired for a kidnapping. When the abduction gets completely out of control, the cons find themselves on the run, vowing to stay out of prison at all costs.

“Ed Bunker is the crime writer’s crime writer,” said Schrader. “He’s in the pantheon and one of the main people who define modern crime writing. He lived the life and lived to tell the story. Dog Eat Dog is Bunker at his best.”

Ever the outspoken director, Paul Schrader took to Facebook to confirm that he has final cut after the debacle of Dying of the Light aka Grindstone – his last collaboration with Nicolas Cage where he lost final cut.

Talking the talk and indeed walking the walk, Edward Bunker was not only an actor, novelist and screenwriter - he was also convicted of bank robbery, drug dealing, extortion, armed robbery, and forgery.
