Red Dead Redemption Backward Compatible For Xbox One This Week

A frontier treasure from Rockstar Games will be moseying its way to Xbox One this week as Red Dead Redemption becomes a backward compatible title on July 8th.

While there's still no word on a sequel or another spook-tastic spin-off for the Red Dead series, it's at least nice to see Red Dead Redemption is fighting to stay in our gamer library. The Undead Nightmare DLC expansion will be included as part of the deal.

"Today we're happy to announce that Red Dead Redemption will be released as part of Microsoft’s Xbox One Backward Compatibility program this coming Friday, July 8th."

All known releases of the open world action cowboy adventure will fully support backward compatibility, such as the original game, the expansion and the Game of the Year edition.

Fans have long since hoped for a PC release considering Rockstar has ported most of their titles over to desktops, including the very cheeky Bully, which was originally for PlayStation 2 before it re-released as Bully: Scholarship Edition for Xbox 360 and PC.

While Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere is expanding with Xbox One titles set to appear on the Windows 10 store it's only for future releases and those published by Microsoft itself. Sadly this backward compatibility for Xbox One won't mean an appearance for PC.

Unfortunately there's no backward compatibility or port for PlayStation 4. However PS4 has received the quite excellent Rockstar gem of The Warriors, which is based off the 1979 movie of the same name, and is now available through PlayStation Network.
