More community creativity is to be harnessed when Triumph Studios releases the next major patch for Age of Wonders 3. Mod support will flood the turn-based strategy with game balance and units open to tinkerers.

While they won't be opening the game up for total conversion projects that fundamentally alter core gameplay, they are making sure we can still mess around enough to warrant Steam Workshop support. Mods will be useable in multiplayer as well as single-player, and can be toggled in the launcher.

"We plan to release modding support as part of our next patch, so the wait shouldn’t be too long. We are still busy adding features, hunting bugs and polishing it all up for you. But overall things are shaping up nicely and we’re excited to see what kinds of creative and crazy things you guys and girls will come up with," blogged the studio.

"You’ll be able to overhaul game balance, add new specializations or even a brand new units! These mods can then be shared with the global player base, via Steam Workshop or the mod site of your preference. You won’t be able to do all-the-things – e.g. change core gameplay, models or textures – but if its something our designers can do it, you’ll can do it too."

Triumph will be releasing more news about the modding support in upcoming updates.

Age of Wonders 3 released back in late March, 2014. It has since had two expansions launch: Golden Realms and Eternal Lords.
