Catastrophe Strikes With Cities: Skylines - Natural Disasters, Coming This Winter

Paradox Interactive and developer Colossal Order has just announced the end is nigh for Mayors in Cities: Skylines as the Natural Disasters expansion is revealed.

In a quick teaser trailer for the new expansion a meteorite menaces a poor, quiet city just minding its own business. The new features include not only the disasters themselves and the obvious destruction they bring, but the crisis during and the clean-up after.

"Natural Disasters will add a series of city-destroying emergencies to Cities: Skylines, which can occur unexpectedly during the game – or be manually triggered by mayors seeking a challenge or some sort of gruesome, vindictive pleasure."

"Buildings and infrastructure will be destroyed, fire can spread across locations, and countless lives may be lost unless players implement the right emergency plans and responses and keep an ear on the new radio alert system."

"Fans of Cities: Skylines will have the chance to overcome everything from massive fires to meteor strikes, and allow their friends to do the same with a new Scenario Mode, where custom challenges can be designed and shared through Steam Workshop."

Not much more is being shown about Natural Disasters just yet as the expansion is in 'pre-Alpha' with only meteorites ready thus far. Helicopters are another big addition helping the emergency services in the city, and to deal with the new threats.

Interestingly there's also a brief mention of 'radio stations' in the trailer though it's unclear whether that means just placing radio stations to make citizens happy, or if the player gets to listen to these stations. Maybe a bit of both? More details are expected this autumn.
