Russo Brothers Confirmed for Avengers: Infinity Wars

It’s official. Joe and Anthony Russo will helm the two part Avengers: Infinity War.

While it’s been rumored since last month that the Russo Brothers would take over from the by now very, very tired Josh Whedon, it’s now officially been confirmed by Marvel Studios.

What hasn’t been confirmed is who will be penning the two biggest movies to come in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the Russo Brothers don’t tend to write their own scripts so it’ll be interesting to see if they take Captain America: Civil War scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely join them (although perhaps Whedon may be called upon for a little script doctoring himself – after all, he leant a helping hand to Thor: The Dark World).

President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige said: “We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe. Avengers: Infinity War Part I is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before."

That’s not an understatement. Even if those potential scribes play fast and loose with their adaptation, the movies will still see Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet and planning to wipe out half of existence if he's not stopped.

Part I is set for April 27, 2018, with Part II taking aim at April 26, 2019.

However it’s not as if the Russo Brothers are taking it easy during that time. They're developing a Ghostbusters film with Sony, they’re currently preparing to shoot Captain America: Civil War, which will feature Chris Evans’ Cap and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, while also introducing Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and possibly whoever is taking over the Spider-Man role.

Civil War invades our cinemas on April 29 next year.
