The long-gestating Joe Carnahan project, Five Against a Bullet, has finally been given the green light.

The project which has been in development since 2011, with Carnahan attached to direct last year, was brought to Sony by Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura four years ago and originally boasted a script by Predators writer Alex Litvak.

Its story concerns a Mexican politician whose father is slaughtered by a drug cartel. In order to stay alive during a campaign to clean up his local area, the canny politico hires the five best bodyguards available.

The film had attracted the attention of Bruce Willis back in 2012 but since Carnahan was brought on to re-write the script and direct in 2014, the project has advanced and now, thanks to former Geffen Records president Jordan Schur, who's made it part of the slate of his new production company Suretone Pictures (along with producer Di Bonaventura), it looks set to go.

Carnahan had been lined up to direct Bad Boys 3 but it seems Five Against a Bullet will be his next project.
