Shane Black’s fresh take on the Predator franchise could have its first solider in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy  and Star Wars: Episode VIII star Benicio Del Toro.

According to Deadline, Del Toro is in talks to appear in The Predator, a spiritual follow-up to the 1987 original which Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guy’s helmer Shane Black co-wrote and appeared in. Speaking at Empire’s Q&A for The Nice Guys, Black promised to ‘event-ise’ the Predator again:

“An attempt to make it more mysterious,” he said. “The Predator has been so overdone. Every couple of years, there's a knock-off churned out. Very low budget with a guaranteed return.”

Co-written with The Monster Squad co-writer and director Fred Dekker, with a hero rumoured to be called Quinn McKenna, although Deadline doesn’t state whether Del Toro will be taking that part.

As well as this potential role, Del Toro has been swapping galaxies and chartering several Sci-fi worlds, including a mysterious role in Star Wars: Episode VIII.
