HoloLens Will Cost Significantly More than a Game Console

Microsoft's HoloLens certainly is one of the more interesting pieces of tech announced recently. Back in January at their Window's 10 press event the software giant described the new device as a "game changer."

HoloLens is a fully-fledged personal computer with a high-performance central processing unit, a graphics processing unit, and a custom holographic processing unit. The augmented reality goggles project virtual images and displays onto real-life objects. It is obviously pretty expensive to make. Unfortunately, that also means it will carry a hefty price tag.

While speaking to The New York Times a Microsoft executive stated that HoloLens would cost "significantly more than a game console." High end game consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One currently cost $350 - $400 U.S.D.

HoloLens being a bit pricey shouldn't come as a big surprise considering the technology it employs. More than likely big businesses and tech gurus will be the early adopters. As for the every day consumer I guess it is time to start pinching those pennies.

The current launch window for HoloLens is Q3 2015.
